2015 Alumni Meeting Michael Sasaki Experience
Hi Everyone!
My name is Michael Sasaki and I’m part of the class of 2005. Yes, that was really ten years ago! When I graduated Soka, I was a competitive figure skater in the national circuit and was aiming for the Olympics, but a set of injuries and a series of anxiety episodes lead me to ultimately retire from the competitive circuit.
2015 Alumni Meeting Sally Garcia Experience
Nine years ago, I graduated from SUA, holding my 5-month old daughter Ana and the proud title of “First Soka Mommy”. Being a mom was a very different kind of challenge than SUA. I can’t imagine a more meaningful task but it’s hard to remember that all the everyday things you do somehow add up to something meaningful. I worked part time in child care, but really missed the structure of being in school and applied to several programs in anthropology. I was accepted to one but my heart was not behind it. When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, my son Yanni, I was secretly grateful for a reason to decline. So I kept on living the “mommy life” occasionally subbing as a preschool teacher.
2015 Alumni Meeting Alex Aldarondo Experience
My name is Alex Aldarondo, from the Class of 2007, the best and sexiest class, and I currently live in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Today I would like to briefly share my journey after SUA. Before, I must mention that I had a troubled and unmemorable schooling experience. As a child learning was not something I ever regarded as enjoyable.  When I applied to SUA, I made a personal commitment to use my experiences and preparation there to transform education in Puerto Rico, if I got accepted.
